BRYC Recreational Soccer All-Star Policy

Introduction

The All-Star tournament provides an opportunity for BRYC to showcase its Recreational Soccer Program and recognize players who have demonstrated outstanding performance. The objective is to represent BRYC with sportsmanship and skill while offering a rewarding experience for players, coaches, and families.

All-Star Event Scheduling

The All-Star Coordinator submits a schedule of All-Star events to EXCOM prior to the seasonal Coaches Meeting, including:

  • Submission of All-Star coach candidates to League Directors
  • Appointment of All-Star coaches
  • Team coach nominations
  • Open scrimmages and player scouting
  • Preliminary roster submissions and final approvals
  • Player notifications and team practice scheduling

The Coordinator also communicates deadlines for rosters, uniforms, birth certificates/visas, and player fees aligned with tournament requirements.

Player Nomination Process

Players are selected based on nominations and evaluations during scrimmages. Coaches nominate players based on attitude, ability, commitment, and performance. Nomination details include:

  • At least two nominations per team
  • Details: name, jersey number, contact info, position, and key traits
  • Coaches must not inform players of nominations

Open Scrimmages

Open scrimmages allow any interested players to demonstrate skills. They are:

  • Observation-based, not structured tryouts
  • May include referees and game-like situations
  • Organized by League Directors and All-Star coaches
  • Supported by volunteers (logistics only)

Scrimmage Format:

  • Check-in with name, jersey, and position
  • Multiple play rotations with team reshuffling
  • Final selection announced later by All-Star coach

All-Star Team Selection

Each team should include players from as many different regular season teams as possible. Coaches may select additional players based on team needs.

  • If selecting a non-nominated player, consult with the league coach
  • Roster sizes follow tournament rules and must be nearly full
  • Each player must play at least one-quarter of game time

Restrictions on Tryouts

Formal tryouts are not allowed. Selection is based on:

  • Regular season games
  • Practices
  • Open scrimmages
  • Coach evaluations

Final Roster Approval

All final rosters must be reviewed and approved by the League Director and either the Deputy Commissioner or Commissioner before submission to the tournament.
